Get Gone

Fiona Apple Angry girl music.  Sometimes it just hits the spot.

Holy balls, the semester ends in a week! I don't know what I'm gonna do when I wont have the structure of school.  I'll be a college graduate! With a useless degree! That's what grad school is for I guess.  I'm pretty nervous though, my new dream is to make a studio in my garage and hide away from the world and paint.  I don't want to deal with the real world of finding a career and living expenses and all that. Anywho... Here's some art from my last semester of school!

Mucha inspired

More Mucha-esque stuff

Self portrait

From my life drawing class :)

This was my final for life drawing.  It's a little raunchy, but people laughed that's what I wanted. Ah, the joys of dating life :)

Finished piece from the plant people series. This one is called "Offer"

This semester was really quite productive for me.  I feel like I really developed my style. I'm quite drawn to the raunchy humor, and I have a bunch of funny sketches that are quite crude and inappropriate I love doing them! Making light of things that really bother me with quite cathartic :)

Bugs

O Death I sure do love banjo music.

Well it's been awhile! I've got lots of arts and doodles to share :)

This is Fiddle Possum, she's a minor character in the Banjo Rat story, but thought I'd flesh her out anyway.

This is my sister!

I've been having an interesting sort of art block lately.  I can't draw anything without reference and it's very frustrating.  A few of my art friends said I should just draw random shapes and see what comes of them.  My friend Jon drew some shapes and I got to make them into what I wanted.  Except the tiger.  He drew the shape and said, not make this a tiger.  It's fun to get out my habits of drawing the same basic shapes for characters.

Jon was drawing medusas in he sketchbook and he influenced me.  Proud to say that this in entirely from my brain! No refs used :)

This is from my life drawing class.  Our model was set up in front of a window so we had two light sources.  I had this division of space and I just threw in the lady and the dogs from my imagination.  My professor loved it.  I do it.  I think it's hilarious.

More from my plant people series.  This is my most recent work in progress.

Finished "Bloom"

This one doesn't have a title yet.

Revisited "Seed" Added the same bark/weedy elements in the background.  It's much more congruent with the rest of the series I think.  I might still change it up though.  I want to make the figure a woman so that it has a consistent narrative throughout the series.

Art and drawing really is my sanctuary in these stressful times of school, papers, graduating, applying to grad school, jobs, finances, relationships, boys, friends, roommates, figuring out where I'm living.  Man, sometimes it feels like the only thing keeping me grounded is the fact that I get to doodle away in sketchbook.  There's always time for a quick little drawing.

Wash

Bon Iver again.  Really good music to draw to I find.

Lots of school stuff. I'm actually quite enjoying the recent stuff we've been doing in my figure class.  We're incorporating printed image that my professor found with the model, and using the Golden Mean. This one is my first attempt, and i think that it's lacking a lot.  I think that the kitty is drawn really well, and I don't want to mess it up, but I know it still needs something.

The second go around was more successful I think.  I love how the bird turned out and i think the composition is pretty dynamic, that little cowboy in the back makes it for me.

This is the continuation of my plant people series.  It's still not done, but here are some in progress shots.

Originally both her arms were flung back, and I liked it that way, but it needed something at the top of the painting, so her right arm is now flailing about.  I couldn't decide if i liked it, but I think it does help the composition.

Getting there! Need to finish up the hand, and work on the background and lighting.

This was a birthday present for one of my very good friends. These animals had significance to her and I smooshed all together and added some designy elements.

Drawings of my man.  When I feel sad or lonely I just sketch him and I feel a lot better <3

Rar! Halloween Emily!

Still doing my thing.  It's really important to my mental state.  I use to try to draw everyday and I realized recently that I wasn't doing that anymore which makes me sad.  I gotta get back in that habit of doing it EVERY DAY!!!

Come talk to me

Bon Iver I love Bon Iver and there's  a banjo in this song.  Can't get enough of it!

School's back in session! Thinking about my next painting concept and lots of art history lately. Haven't done lots of sketchbook stuff recently, but there's a backlog of sketches from before school.

                                                            Loving my markers.  Some Gerenuks

I seriously love dogs.  I think I should just paint cute puppies for the rest of my life. There's a market for that.

Zoogie! He's my main man :)

The completed version of the Seraphim I did for my friend's band.  They wanted it more metal and hardcore looking.  I like this version though.

Trying to get in touch with my gory, metal side for this project.  It's not going so well.

This is my theme for my current series. It's about growth and how it can be hard, painful, and lonely.

\

The idea for the series came from my feelings about graduate school.

More complete sketchbook drawing.  I like this idea, but I wont paint this one. It's done just being in my sketchbook.

This is the first completed painting of the series.  I like his feet and hands, but other than that I'm still not really sure how I feel about it.

This semester is going to be rough. But I'll try to post in progress shots of my paintings and ll that fun stuff.

Sun Hands

Local Natives More hipster music.

This blog post is dedicated to my manager, Mitch,  who has asked me to draw him so many times that he's becoming my default doodle.  He also introduced me to all the hipster music that I've been listening to lately.

He asked me to draw him riding a werewolf.  He has this hanging on his door now.

I drew him riding on a unicorn, apparently the unicorn represents a girl for him.

He asked me to draw a tattoo design for him.  This is his watch and the numbers are significant to him or something.  He suggested that I become a tattoo artist, and honestly, I'm considering it.  It's a way to get paid for the art I do so I'm looking into tattoo apprenticeships.

Bored one day and he just showed up on my paper.  This one really looks like him.

His bike got stolen and he was sad so I made him a commemorative cookie in the shape of his bicycle.  He also likes sharks so he got some shark cookies as well.  Cookie art!

There are many more doodles of him at work that I did on receipt paper.  He also has a picture I drew of him taped to his wallet.  He's shown up in other blog posts, I don't think I've ever drawn the same person so many times. I don't mind doing it though, because he really really appreciates my art.  He gives me that ego boost and the praise that we all love.  When people like my art a lot, I'm more likely to do things for them.

I am ready I am ready for a fall

Hot Chip Fun stuff, and this music video is really really cool.

Sketchbook stuff!! Oh it feels so good to do page after page of drawings.

This is a character sheet of me.  I feel like if I think of myself as one of my characters, then I can be a stronger person. It helps me feel like I can handle all the big changes in my life.

Some big hipped women

Rooster done with inktense pencils.  It felt good to kinda abuse the paper for this

Commission of a tattoo design for a coworker.

Fancy birds

Sometimes I really hate my job.

Woman on fire.  Referenced from a Mucha painting.

Just a crappy doodle.

This one has been in my sketchbook forever.  It still doesn't feel done.

Banjo Rat stuff.

I wanna fill up this book.  I feel like I'm taking forever with it.
