Oy! Been doing a fair amount of commission work lately. I hate doing commissions, but it is nice when I get paid for doing what I love. It's just hard negotiating a fair price for my labor. The first one is really my fault. A gentleman came into The Pie (I'm a cashier there) and saw our Grateful Dead poster. He asked how much for it, my boss said it's not for sale. I said "Hey I'm an artist! I'll make you one!" He was very excited and we exchanged contact info.
When we met later so I could show him my work, it was a little weird. He didn't really care to look at my stuff, and I told him I charge $8 and hour and this painting will probably take about 10 hours. He wasn't too thrilled about that. So I settled for doing a 24x24 painting for $60. It's not bad, but I feel like it's a bit of a rip off. I dunno, how do you decide a fair price? Some input on this would be really appreciated.
Anywhooo, here's the completed painting. I hope he likes it.
EDIT: Finally gave it to him today. First thing he said was "Bitchin'! I love it!" I felt very satisfied :D
My boss also commisioned me to make a little card for his roommate's birthday. He gave me an idea of what he wanted and it was easy to complete. And doing a little drawing like this only takes a few hours so that makes it easier too.
He's the one the glasses. He's a lot fun to draw, I've actually done a lot of little doodles for him. It's fun :)
